Ear ConingEar Coning, also known as Ear Candling, is a therapy that has been used since ancient times. Because more and more people are seeking less intrusive ways of healing, ear coning is making a resurgence as an alternative to helping with the removal of wax, flaky skin and bacteria from the ear canal. The ear canal is examined to determine the condition of the eardrum and extent of debris in the outer ear canal. A gentle massage is administered to the sinus area and outer ear to stimulate blood flow. A protective cover is placed over the clients head and hair. The cone shaped candle is placed in the ear canal and the top end of the cone is ignited. The cone is typically made up of cotton dipped in wax and is hollow on the inside. When the cone is ignited the spiral of the cone causes the smoke to be pulled down in to the ear canal. This causes the ear canal to warm up and loosen the wax and any other material. As it heats it up, the candle causes suction by creating a vacuum in the ear canal. Air is drawn up from the eustachian tube into the middle ear then through the porous membrane out into the outer ear. The heat and the vacuum draw out the wax and other materials from the ear canal into the base of the candle. As it burns down you will hear a lot of cracking and hissing which is the process of removing the wax etc. The warmth feels soothing and relaxing during the process. The candle is carefully removed and extinguished. 2 to 3 candles are recommended in each ear in one session for maximum benefit. People have experienced the following from a session of an Ear Coning
